(The other solution being having multiple armor and runes sets for PvP chars which could add some extra depth to the game if everyone was able to do it.)

I like armor swapping and I hope it will be possible to do it on PvP chars in the future. I have a PvE Warrior and Monk that I have spent the time to get PvP ready and it was a very time consuming and expensive task. I like what armor and rune swapping ads to the game but it has the potential to be too much of an advantage in the future if only PvE chars do it. Either way it has to be changed for better or worst.

We're going off topic here but:
Changing armor is totally unrealistic if you ask me. I mean if you were getting smacked around with a sword while you were getting pummled by lightning bolts I seriously doubt you'd be digging in your 100lb backpack to replace your chainmail with platemail. But then again this arguement could go on forever about many other unrealistic aspects of the game. From a RP standpoint I think it's silly...
Perhaps a good start would be to lock changing armor with a timer similiar to the salvage timer that prevents you from salvaging stuff because you have "fought" too recently. They would have to make it lock if you took damage, cast spells/skills, or cause damage in melee. 5-10 seconds would suffice.
This would be a good start while still giving you the option of changing armors. Or how about a 5 second time period where your naked (in between armor changes)? I bet that would pretty much keep people from changing mid-battle...

It's not so much changing mid-battle as it is changing in-battle. No one changes when they're getting hit - they change as soon as they figure out what the opponent is doing and stick with it. +HP armor is nice, but it's much better when you've determined that your opponent is a spike. Otherwise you may want to stick to +armor variations. Similarly, Blighter's or Disciple's might be nice against degen teams. As of right now, most, if not all professions are locked into an ideal set of armor - Gladiator's, Rogue's, Judge's, Tormentor's, and Druid's.

Don't a lot of PvE items also have lower requirements? There's a few situations where that kind of thing can make a difference in what build you can run.

Their usefulness seems pretty limited when you can simply swap 20/20 staffs, since its likely you're not going to be using skills from more than 2-3 attributes

If the meta game shifts back to where rangers are prefered for runners, this bow might be nice for the reduced poison duration for facing an enemy runner carring poison.
Not max damage, and no +% dmg modifier, but that wouldn't be of primary importance on a ranger runner anyway and you'd also have other bows at your disposal.
This is a quest reward. http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/A_Brother%27s_Fury

I agree with you it totally is unrealistic but if players will think it will help them win they will do it no matter how silly it is. I really dont think your idea will change much about gameplay since very few players switch while in actual combat but in the lull between skirmishes or at the very start of the match.

Not really any warrior worth his salt with run 15 or 16 weapons mastery without exception and wiill typically have at least 9 strength or tactics for a speed buff, most casters will have 9 attribute easily to meet a focus requirement, no one really cares about damage on wands and staves. I guess on a multi-attribute ranger a req 7 max+15% bow can help but usually those kinds of rangers arent focused on bow damage.
On a few exotic builds it can help but this goes in the area of hard to get overpriced rare gold items. If you have them more power to you!

Well in a few multiattribute builds it could help but generally a 20/20 item for specific attributes will be better. It also helps if your using spells with no attributes but decent no attribute skills are limited (Martyr, Holy Veil, echo/arcane echo, Elemenatal Attunement, Grenth's Balance, resurrect, some assorted junk skills Glyphs dont get the bonus)

This is an excellent article. For what it's worth, it would be useful to someday update it with links to the exact items (especially since some people, including myself, aren't familiar enough with the items to know exactly what the shorthand means).

You can swap your armor with Superior runes on them, when you're in Halls and you have for example: 11 beast mastery, 16 expertise and 9 markmanship, and you have a superior Expertise helmet on, you can change it to a Superior Beast Mastery and put up a higher level spirit for example.

well I dunno if that makes any difference, but :
Exalted Aegis greenie (+30/-5(20%), req str or tac) -> http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Exalted...Unique_Item%29
Merkis Gaze (+30/-2 enchanted, req str) -> http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Merki%27s_Gaze
there are also collectors shields with the same stats
as for the lower req pve items, I think low req shields can actually be of help now and then
PS. ive also seen a pve sword from a quest in Presearing, one with a built-in 5 a being used in pvp on boonprots. with it you can effectively have a one-hand weapon with +10armor. am pretty sure this is unique

Picked up three of these swords yesterday, and kitted them out with Shelter, Defence and Warding mods.

I have a (+45hp/-2 stance) shield for when I run Hex Breaker, a +30hp/(-2 enchanted) shield for standard use, and a +10AL vs. Slashing/+30hp sheild for dealing with Axe/Sword heavy Warrior offenses.
Looking to buy a bigger selection of +10AL shields for all occasions.

As Zui said; 3 AL for Blue, Purple and Green shields, 8 AL for Gold. It has been contested that the lesser sheilds actually give you 5 AL not 3, but I have yet to test this personally other than just quickly checking that Golds actually are superior.

Armor hiding by FoW armor (or now Canthan armor...I actually opted out of FoW armor on my monk in favor of several sets of various Canthan armors) does give an advantage, but only in very high end GvG (top 20 maybe even just top 10). It is very hard to call targets taking armor into account with the already large myriad of factors. Doubt that some ppl take visible signs to account? Two nights ago I was monking against EviL. They ran 3 surge mezmers, only one of which had mind rack. Since I was the only boon prot on the team, I got a mezmer following me. I started item switching (important note: my negative energy set has a very obvious candy cane shield and zodiac axe) and eliminated the surge. Immediately they switched mezmers on me and I got the one with mind wrack countering the negative energy set. In response I remained in the negative energy set and only switched back to my normal set as necessary. After about 5 minutes into the match, the mezmer would only energy surge if he saw me leave my negative energy set. Albiet it was EviL, but it is just an example at how any key can be used against you.
